This is a late post but a memorable day regardless. Any time I get can get on the water with my daughter Greta is a good day if we catch fish or not. On Memorial day this past May, Greta and I headed up to see if we could catch and release a few rainbow trout in this rare Washington State Alpine Wilderness lake that you can actually drive to...if you have a 4 wheel drive truck or jeep as there are some wash out areas that lower riding cars like Subaru Outback or Forester just would not be able to get over without high centering. This limits access to a few who know about the lake, and those hikers who are willing to park and walk a couple of remaining miles to access this beautiful lake in the Cascade mountains.
We spent about an hour at the lake tossing small sized rooster tail spinners with barbless single hooks while fish were literally rolling all over the place. I managed to entice one aggressive 6" fish to take the lure and was able to bring him in and release without harm, while the rest of the fish simply laughed at our offerings. Next time we head up we will be bringing our 5 wt fly rods as these fish are finicky and clearly do not accept anything that has any kind of human scent associated with the offering. Greta did great and as always was a trooper, wanting to do "one more cast" until it was time to go.
Looking forward to more time on the water with Greta, and hopeful that I get can my youngest daughter Helen to join us soon as well.
