Gear that works
Below is a list of products that we use and have found to work well in the rivers we fish for Salmon and Steelhead. In our blog posts, we will reference the specific lures that we used on a given river while the rod, reel and line set ups will likely be more general across all of the rivers we fish. This is just a list of recommendations based on our experience and success.
General rod and reel set up
For big water steelhead and salmon fishing on the Skykomish River, we tend to use 10'6", 10-17lb Mod Fast, Medium - Heavy spin cast rods equipped with a 3000 or 4000 series reel and 30lb moss green braided line, with a 3' 12lb fluorocarbon bumper for spoon and spinner fishing, and 40lb high vis braided line for our float and jig set ups.
For smaller streams targeting coho in the fall like on the Situk and Lost Rivers of Yakutat, we lean towards 8'6", 12-25lb Mod Fast, Medium - Heavy spin cast rods equipped with a 3000 or 4000 series reel and 30lb moss green braided line, with a 3' 12-15lb fluorocarbon bumper for spoon, and spinner fishing. The same set up works well for twitching jigs, but would recommend a slightly shorter rod in the 7' to 7'6" range.

Or build your own!
I'll add all of the other components such as wire, French Blades, environmentally friendly bodies (not lead bullet weights), paints, etc. Very soon!!!

Recommend the Nightmare Jigs or Assorted Jigs Six Pack as good starter sets for Steelhead

NOTE: The yard ratings above are for mono line. A 100 yard spool of 30lb braided line fits perfect on a 4000 series reel. One more reason why we prefer braided line to mono
